SCTE104 advertising insert with Scooty

Customer : TF1 Group
Type of organization : Private audiovisual group
Location : Boulogne-Billancourt (France)
Date : July 2024

LCI, TF1 group's 24-hour news channel, selected Scooty, the SCTE management solution developed by MBT, to ensure the accurate and reliable insertion of SCTE104 signals into its advertising broadcast stream. This project was a first for MBT as it involved integration with Imagine automation, instead of the MBT environments typically deployed, while ensuring compatibility with new insertion equipment.

The project

The main objective was to provide LCI with a robust tool capable of automatically generating and inserting the SCTE104 signals needed to trigger advertising screens.

Two major challenges characterized the project:

  • Interoperability with Imagine automation, a first for MBT, which required the implementation of a custom API interface.
  • Compatibility with EVS's GNS600 cards, ANSI-certified but never before used in this context.

To ensure a secure approach, MBT conducted the project in two stages: a first phase dedicated to the development and validation of the Imagine interface, followed by a second dedicated to configuring the insertion rules and fully integrating the solution.

MBT solutions implemented

Deployed Products

  • Scooty : Management and supervision of SCTE insertions.

Key elements

  • Web interface for insertions monitoring.
  • Interfacing with Imagine automation.

Specific developments

  • Creation of an LCI process adapted to Imagine playlists.
  • Development of a custom API interface between Scooty and Imagine.

Technical partners

  • Imagine Communications (via TF1) for automation.
  • Fincons (via TF1) for MIM monitoring.

Results and benefits observed

The deployment of Scooty allowed LCI to make advertising insertion more reliable thanks to precise and automated management of SCTE104 signals. The integration of the EVS cards went smoothly and the Imagine interface proved its effectiveness, ensuring smooth communication with the existing automation.

Teams now have centralized oversight and increased visibility into the infrastructure, while simplifying day-to-day operations. The project was conducted and completed entirely remotely, demonstrating MBT’s ability to deliver quickly and efficiently in a distributed environment.

Perspectives

This project demonstrates MBT's ability to integrate into complex environments where multiple technologies coexist, and to design interfaces tailored to the specific needs of its customers. Scooty's flexibility and rapid deployment are major strategic assets for broadcasters.
